In 2024, Ability Housing and the City of Jacksonville launched a Supportive Housing Pilot Program to provide affordable housing and personalized support for chronically homeless residents.
Kerry, homeless since 2017, was diagnosed with cancer while living on the streets but couldn’t begin treatment without stable housing. That changed in April 2024 when the program gave her a home and connected her with a service coordinator who helped her access life-saving care.
With a safe place to heal, Kerry completed chemotherapy and discovered a passion for painting. She began creating art with a neighbor in the program, transforming her home into a colorful gallery that reflects her creativity and strength.
Today, with her health improving, Kerry’s pride in her journey is unmistakable. This is more than housing, this is a new beginning.
