Oakland Terrace Apartments

About Oakland Terrace

In 1971, a neighborhood church constructed the Oakland Terrace Apartments on the former site of the Boylan-Haven School—a location of particular significance to the community. Established in 1886 as Boylan High School, its health training program eventually led to the founding of Brewster Hospital, one of the earliest institutions of its kind serving African-Americans in Florida and among the first in the South.

Following the acquisition of the property, Ability Housing initiated a substantial rehabilitation of the 42-year-old buildings. Today, these high-quality and affordable apartments offer safe and stable homes for low-income individuals and families. Thanks to a state-of-the-art playground provided by KaBOOM! and Humana, children now have a place to learn and grow at Oakland Terrace.
