We are eager to transform the vacant Lake Forest Elementary School, located at 901 Kennard Street, into a thriving community asset.

The school was shuttered in 2019 and now sits empty. Earlier this year, Duval County Public Schools approved a proposal to redevelop the property into a garden-style apartment community with up to 180 units, including a combination of market-rate and affordable rental units for working families — 25% of whom will be Duval County Public Schools personnel. Additionally, in response to productive conversations with the surrounding neighborhood, the development will include space for an early learning center to serve families across the Lake Forest community.

This plan has already received support from the City Council’s Planning Committee and Land Use and Zoning Committee. In advance of the full City Council’s vote on November 23, we invite you to send an email of support for this vision. Your voice will help us fulfill our mission of building strong communities where everyone has a home.
