The transformation of Wayne Densch Center is a unique collaboration between
- Ability Housing, Inc., an industry leader in providing affordable and supportive housing; the nonprofit was asked to expand to serve the Central Florida community because of its proven track-record of providing housing solutions which improve the quality of life for the individuals served as well as the broader community; and
- Wayne Densch Center, Inc. a provider of high-quality, impactful support services to persons with a mental illness and/or substance use issue for many years; they are recognized for the caliber of the services they provide and the outcomes of the people they serve.
Wayne Densch Center is a transitional housing program that is being transformed into apartments; providing high quality, service-enriched affordable and supportive housing; with a focus on serving formerly homeless individuals and families.
The property currently has 64 units; however, over 20% are not in use due to their condition. The remainder of the property is in need of substantial rehabilitation due to accumulated deferred maintenance issues.
When completed, the property will have 77 fully-rehabbed affordable apartments. The housing will be linked with individualized, voluntary supports; implementing several best practices. The two most prominent are Housing First and Permanent Supportive Housing. Both models are evidence-based practices, proven to stabilize formerly homeless persons with disabilities, improving their health and overall quality of life.
